Southend in Sight’s Anniversary Exhibition visited by Blind Veteran, Simon Brown

Southend in Sight held a special 60th anniversary exhibition on Friday 12 October at the Holiday Inn, Eastwoodbury Crescent near Southend Airport. The guest speaker was Simon Brown and the Mayor and Mayoress of Southend also attended.

Guest speaker Simon Brown was a corporal in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Iraq when he sustained facial injuries during a rescue mission in Basra. Having rescued six colleagues, Simon was shot by a sniper and lost his left eye and has only 20 per cent vision in his right. Six years on, he is the Membership Officer for the charity Blind Veterans UK. Simon meet the charity’s volunteers and staff after his speech.
